This is the question that I get asked every day. Yes, EVERY.DAY. You see, my guy will make me just about anything I ask for. My challenge is, what should I ask for. I could eat the same thing day in and day out and not think twice about it. Or, I could simply eat chips and salsa for every meal.
So, my response is whatever you have a taste for, because let’s be honest, I don’t taste the dish in my mind like he does. Yes, folks, he tastes the dish in his mind while we are meandering the aisles of the grocery store. He lays all the ingredients out in the basket, surveys the items, and concocts the dish right there in the produce section. His imagination amazes me. All this happens while I stare like a deer in the headlights while pushing the cart following him around like a lost puppy dog.
Imagine if you will, the scene from the movie, The Notebook, where Ryan Gosling’s character “Noah” is yelling to Rachel McAdams character “Allie”, “what do you want” repeatedly but just add “dinner” to the end of that question. You know the scene, if not click the link below. I feel like Allie in that I just want to yell, “it’s not that simple” and then say, “I have to go” and walk away whenever my guy asks me that question.
So, getting back to the subject of this post, what do I want for dinner? I want food. Good food. Nourishment, nutrition, calories, fuel, sustenance. All of the above and it better taste good too.
I truly thought going into the relationship that because he was a chef, I wouldn’t have to answer this question anymore. I really thought I was finally off the hook for that one. Boy was I naive. You see, everyone struggles with this, even if you are a chef, because there are so many options, so many choices, when it comes to food. He can make anything and everything taste delicious whether I suggest hot dogs for dinner or steak and lobster.
So, tonight’s meal was another dinner, another blog, another story and another chance to ask the same question, so, what do you want for dinner?
